SpringAid Nigeria Strengthens Local Government Partnership Business, Job & Employment  for Women and Youth in Imo State

As part of the ongoing Sida–SpringAid Project on Women and Youth Entrepreneurship, Job Creation and Economic training, a team of SpringAid International Development staff led by the Executive Director Teddy Ihens, made advocacy visits to the Chairman of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area -Hon Amb Larry Chikwe and that of Obowo – Barr Johnson Obioma Ehirim.

The visits were aimed at strengthening collaboration with local government leadership and fostering community-level support for women and young people participating in the project, which focuses on entrepreneurship training, mentorship, job creation, and start-up support.

During the engagements, SpringAid Nigeria formally presented the project’s objectives, implementation strategy, and expected results, emphasizing the importance of locally led development, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable livelihoods. Discussions also explored how local government structures can support participant mobilization, community ownership, and an enabling environment for small and growing businesses.

Speaking during the visits, representatives of SpringAid Nigeria highlighted that the Sida–SpringAid Project is designed to equip women and youth with practical skills to start, manage, and grow viable businesses, thereby contributing to poverty reduction and economic resilience at the grassroots level.

The leadership of both Ahiazu Mbaise and Obowo LGAs welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting development interventions that promote employment, entrepreneurship, and youth inclusion within their communities.

SpringAid International Development Nigeria expressed appreciation for the warm reception and constructive dialogue, noting that strong partnerships with local authorities are critical to achieving sustainable impact.

The Sida–SpringAid Project is implemented by SpringAid International Development Nigeria with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and is being implemented across selected Local Government Areas in Imo State.
